Shopping around the World

Today, we are joining Bacon and The Canadian Cats in Shopping Around the World Hop!
This month's recipe and shopping spree is about FISH!

We shopped at 3 stores for our dinner:
Tony's Fish Market, Oregon City, Or.
Spicer Brother's Produce, Oregon City, Or.
Fred Meyer (Kroger), Oregon City, Or.

We will be making Fettuccine with Smoked Salmon.

Fettuccine is on sale today....Score!
.88 cents

Going for the premium stuff!
We need a 1/2 pound, $6.50

Yeah, the low calorie cream cheese is on sale!
$2.29

Never tried this before, but the recipe calls for 1 cup......
Any suggestions for the remaining 3 cups?
$2.89

We just need 2 tablespoons of fresh Dill.
We bought the whole plant, so we can grow more for later!
Also, the clerk sold the plant for 1/2 price because it looked scraggly, but our green paws can fix that!
Reg. price $2.99,  Scraggly price $1.49

Mmmmmm♥

Fettuccine with Smoked Salmon                            Cost

6 ounces fettuccine                                                 .88
1 cup clam-tomato juice                                         2.89
1/2 cup chicken broth or dry white wine                  .96
1 red onion, finely chopped                                      .52
2 tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped               1.21
1/4 cup light cream cheese                                    2.29
2 tsp mixed peppercorns, bruised
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 pound of smoked salmon                                6.50
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill                          1.49
                                                                  Total   $16.74

1. Cook the fettuccine according to package directions, drain and place in serving bowl.

2. In medium saucepan, combine the clam-tomato juice, broth or wine, and bring to boil. Add the onion, reduce the heat and simmer until soft about 3 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, cream cheese, peppercorns and salt, cook stirring constantly, until well blended, about 2 minutes.

3. Sprinkle the flaked salmon over the fettuccine, add the sauce and toss to coat. Sprinkle with the dill and serve.

4 servings / Only 344 calories per serving!

This meal cost us $4.18 per serving to make. We also have left over ingredients such as Clamato, 1/2 box of fettuccine,  1/2 can of broth, cream cheese and one thriving Dill plant!

Dog Friendly Florida Beaches!

If you are tired of the rain and cold, like us Oregon doggies, you might be dreaming of your next "sun filled" excursion. Don't get us wrong....living in the Pacific Northwest is great!
Our entire coastline is dog friendly. But, it can be cold and rainy!
Tripping.com recently shared with us this travel info on 10 Dog Friendly Beaches in Florida.
BOW WOW!

Just imagine the warm sand under your paws and the warm water on your fur.
That would be the ticket for our canine seasonal doldrums!
There are also TONS of vacation homes in Florida that allow dogs, so you have a great place to stay near the beach!

Have any of you 4-legged southern pups visited any of these Florida Dog Beaches?
Inquiring "Northern Dogs" want to know!

Cuz, we are ready to have a BALL!

...And we are ready to ROLL in the good times at Dog Friendly Florida Beaches!

Pretty Invasive!

Have you ever planted anything that ran amuck?

Lamium and Vinca
Here in the wet, shady woods of Oregon, plants tend to get away from you!

English Ivy can no longer be propagated and sold in this state, because of it's invasive nature.

Petasites Hybrid
A "free" little start, brought home in a bucket!

Petatsites j. giganteus 'Variegatus'
A little "plug" purchased from a catalog 10 years ago, has now expanded over a 30' area with it's rhizomes.
In a month, some leaves will be 3' wide.  An excellent place to hide!

Then, there is the innocent looking 'Wood Hyacinth' or 'English Bluebell'.
Propensity for reseeding make these good subjects for naturalizing.

What invasive plants do you have?

Happy Gardening!
Be careful out there..........the plants have legs!

Tulips, Goats, Vintage Cars!

What do Tulips, Goats and Old Cars have in common?
We saw all those things on Sunday!!

The new kids on our block.
We invited the little brown one with the white head to come and live with us.......Dad said "NO!"
C'mon Dad......think of all the free lawn mowing!

We drove up to 'Holland America Bulb Farm' to check out the vintage cars, trailers and blooms.

The bloom season is lagging behind with this continued cold-wet weather.
We found a few stunning beauties. We loved them all the more, because they are the tough survivors that have braved all the elements!

April Showers will bring May Flowers.......maybe?

Fun things to do when you have no electricity!

Friday, we had a big wind storm that knocked out our power for 2 days!
What is there to do for 2 days with no electricity and stormy weather?!?

We colored eggs and made an Easter basket.

We played A LOT!

We bundled up and went for a car ride in a hail storm.

I went to get my hair done and came home with an Easter egg scarf.

We barbecued 2 nights in a row!

The PGE repair man finally made it to our little lane and got our power back on!
Oh, Happy Day!!!!!!

Weekends should always be this exciting!
