Canines Uncorked!!

Oregon wine country is going to the dogs!
At least this Saturday, at the Oregon Humane Society event, 'Canines Uncorked'.

How did they do that?
7 Oregon wineries, welcome dogs and their people to enjoy the scenery, have some fun and taste a little wine.
Lounging in the shade, at Montinore Estate.
Toby, at Kramer Vineyards.
Meeting Maggie at Oak Knoll.
Here I am, giving Bella a kiss at Kramer Vineyards!
Look! She's smiling at me!
Kendall and I, bark about social networking.

I signed up to win some treats, paws crossed!
Thanks to these dog friendly wineries, for hosting a furry fun event.

Vampires be Gone!!

Today in the garden...
We harvested a tennis ball plant!!
How about that, Frankie Furter!! You thought you really had something with your 'Milkbone Tree'.
I'm growing tennis balls, out here in Oregon!!
Then, we harvested some ingredients for garlic potatoes.
Pee Yew, that garlic stinks!
Mom, put the garlic in this dehydrator and now it really stinks.
Dad told her, "Take it outside!"
We are now rid of vampires, insects and visitors for awhile!

Stink-a-Palooza!

Chef in my Garden 2011

We were fortunate enough to attend one of the 'Chef in my Garden' dinners this past weekend.
These benefit dinners for http://www.growing-gardens.org/  have become one of the highlights of our summer.
This year, we found ourselves at Villa Catalana. A most impressive home, just 10 minutes from our humble abode. Fashioned after a Spanish Cathedral, surrounded by Mediterranean plants.
Who knew that Spain was just around the corner.
Lovely views...

Food prepared and served by Andina Restaurant.
Overhead misters, kept the diners comfortable. WOW

Peruvian delights such as:
Gazpacho

Beets!

A potato to remember.
The best lamb chop, EVER.
and that is just the appetizers :)

New York steak with corona bean and Burrata cheese salad.

My favorite...fresh Salmon, pickled cucumber and apricots.
It looked prettier, but I ate half of it, before I took the picture..heehee

The Tower!

The Arches!!

The Flora!

What's next?

Lavender-scented Peruvian pastry with poached peaches.

Rare plants

Until next summer.......

Thank you Growing Gardens for helping families and students learn to grow and preserve their own food. Every time Growing Gardens installs a garden, they help bring individuals together by creating a space for interaction and conversation. By focusing their efforts in low income urban neighborhoods and schools, they are building community and providing healthy organic food, where the need is greatest.
Many thanks to our hosts and to Andina Restaurant of Portland, for a fabulous evening.
